It’s crazy to think that Pokémon GO has already been around for five years. When it was first released it’s no small claim that it revolutionised mobile gaming. Integrating Augmented Reality into mainstream gaming and getting people outside and moving all in one fell swoop.
Nintendo have always been dependable in celebrating their major Pokémon milestones with a bang. The limited 20th anniversary set and the impending 25th TCG anniversary were both well received and stunning sets, accompanied by McDonalds campaigns to boost the hype even further.
Over the past 5 years we’ve seen annual special events for Pokémon GO and this year is no exception! If you’re subscribed to Nintendo, you should have gotten an email hitting your inbox containing the following:
‘Trainers,
What an incredible five years they’ve been. Remember back in 2016 when Pokémon GO was just about exploring the world and catching Pokémon? While this is still the core of the game today, the world of Pokémon GO is now so much more than that!
And they’re not wrong! There are plenty of exciting events coming up, but I’m most excited for the full set of starter Pokémon spawning around the world!
Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Treecko, Torchic, Mudkip, Turtwig, Chimchar, Piplup, Snivy, Tepig, Oshawott, Chespin, Fennekin, and Froakie will all be appearing around PokéStops with active Lure Modules and after you complete Field Research.
There will also be wild spawns for a bunch of those Pokémon and daily bonus Field Research tasks will lead to encounters with them as well. I personally can’t wait to get my hands on the original starter three 😍
There are plenty more upcoming features, so be sure to check out this article on GOHub to get a full breakdown!
